2017-18 Budget Votes on Tuesday May 16
Voting for the 2017-18 district budgets for Saratoga Springs City School District and Ballston Spa Central School District will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM at various locations.
Saratoga Springs City School District
On Tuesday, May 16, residents of the Saratoga Springs City School District (SSCSD) will vote on a proposed $122,712,342 budget for the 2017-2018 school year. The proposed budget was designed with a commitment to preserve the outstanding quality of education for students within the district and calls for a 3.64% spending increase. The estimated school tax levy increase is 2.75%.
Also on the ballot: election of 3 Board of Education candidates, purchase of a dozen new buses, and the creation of a Capital Reserve fund to finance future construction, improvements, reconstruction & renovations. More info at SaratogaSchools.org
The Board of Education will hold a meeting in the Saratoga Springs High School Meade Auditorium at 9:00 PM tomorrow to announce the unofficial voting results.
Ballston Spa Central School District
The Ballston Spa Central School District Board of Education approved a proposed budget of $90,340,742 for the 2017-2018 school year. The adopted budget reflects a 2.1% budget increase, and a 2.9% tax levy increase, with an average 0.6% tax rate increase across the district (tax rates are set in August). The district estimates that residents would pay an additional $22 in property taxes for the average home assessed at a value of $225,000.
Also on the ballot: a School Vehicle Replacement Proposition enabling the district to spend up to $907,000 to purchase and replace school buses/vehicles, permission to collect $55,650 for Public Library funding and $30,000 for the Ballston Area Recreation Commission, and election of 3 Board of Education members. Students from the Ballston Spa High School’s Participation in Government classes will be conducting the district’s annual Exit Poll to gather input from the community voters.
