Do your part and care for your heart! Heart disease is the number 1 killer worldwide and this month is American Heart Month to raise awareness about cardiovascular health and heart disease. February serves as a reminder for all of us to take care of our hearts and prioritize a healthy lifestyle. With increased awareness, education, and lifestyle changes, we can help more Americans live longer, healthier lives and be an advocate for healthy habits. Remember, it’s never too late to start living a healthy lifestyle!

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends brining your health back to the basics when it comes to your heart. Eat healthy, get active, and manage stress! These simple lifestyle changes can add years to your life and increase the quality of your life. Eating healthy will help lower your blood cholesterol and lower your risk of coronary artery disease and keep your heart healthy. It is also critical for your heart that you exercise, and you don’t have to go overboard. In fact, it’s better to keep it light and simple to help reduce inflammation. Exercising will improve cardiovascular function through adaptations to the heart and vascular system. High amounts of chronic stress can lead to high blood pressure, increasing your risk for heart attack and stroke so its important to maintain lower stress levels. Slow things down, take a deep breath, and prioritize things that make you happy and simply enjoy the life you are living.
