Fabulous Antique Farm
197 Rich Road, Shushan, NY 12873
Q & A with Listing Agents Margaret “Meg” Minehan and John “Jack” Minehan
What are the home’s most valuable features for prospective buyers?
This property is an antique home built in 1880 with some terrific updates. There is a first floor master suite as well as first floor laundry, which is unheard of in homes of this age. You step back in time to the days of keeping rooms, wide plank wood floors, fireplaces in dining rooms and gorgeous pastoral views. There are 72 acres included in the sale and a hand shake agreement with a local farmer.
How would you describe the home’s style/floor plan?
This is very much a traditional antique farmhouse with a fabulous front porch. Enjoy sitting or dining in the screened porch overlooking the babbling brook. Keep the antique double front doors open for cross breezes. There are lovely built-ins everywhere and loads of closet space, which are unusual in an old home.
Are there any unusual amenities?
There’s an old corn crib, functional four bay equipment shed, and two red barns. It’s a picturesque piece of property. There is a guest house that would be perfect as an art or ceramic studio. It’s located on a very lightly traveled road, which adds to the privacy and seclusion. A large, cleared rear yard backs up to gorgeous woods that are ready for cross country and hiking trails.
What’s your favorite thing about the property?
One of our favorite aspects of this home is that it has been updated to reflect some of the desires of today’s buyers. There are amazing nooks and crannies everywhere and you can imagine the history that has taken place in this spot. With some desire and energy, it wouldn’t take much to turn what has been a gentleman’s farm back into a fully functioning farm.
