History of One Starbuck Lane
Presently: Private residence
History of One Starbuck Lane – The original structure was built in 1899 to serve as the carriage house to 11 Fifth Avenue – the home of Edgar and Ella Starbuck, owners of Starbuck’s Department Store.
(The store was victim to the Broadway fire of 1957 that destroyed 396-418 Broadway. It was later rebuilt where Lillian’s Restaurant now stands.)
Mr. Starbuck passed away in 1926 and the property remained in the family until 1944. Subdivided from 11 Fifth Avenue in the 1970’s, the property was then used as 2 apartments.
In 1990, the carriage house was sold to Roohan Realtor, Carole Tarantino and converted to a single family home. Award-winning architect, Tom Frost, designed the spectacular interior. The east carriage bay became living space, the east upstairs apartment became bedrooms and family room, the west apartment was turned into a master bedroom suite, and the right carriage bay remained garage space.
The exterior, however, remains much as it was 100 years ago, with only the addition of windows and a skylight for natural light. The interior is spacious with an inviting warmth, and One Starbuck Lane has been host to many Roohan Realty parties.
