24 Circular Street

The Nolan House

Built in 1872 for J. Edward Stacy, who was unable to pay for it, title for 24 Circular Street then transferred to Augustus Bockes. In 1874, Mary W. Putnam, widow of the George Putnam (grandson of Saratoga Springs’ founding father Gideon Putnam) purchased this Second Empire Victorian. Designed by Stevens and Vaughn architects, this High Victorian is defined by its Mansard roof. The original ironwork still exists today.

In 1883, the home was purchased by Michael Nolan, former Mayor of Albany and owner of the Beverwyck Brewing Company. It remained in the family until 1959, when Blanche Nolan donated the home to St. Peter’s Church for use as a convent for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, who taught at St. Peter’s Elementary School and St. Peter’s Academy.

In 1976, the home was purchased by its present owners the Presbyterian – New England Congregational Church.
