Saratoga’s 47th annual Flag Day Parade (sponsored by the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge #161) is scheduled for Saturday, June 13th at noon. In honor of Vietnam Era Veterans, the parade will begin at the intersection of North Broadway and East Avenue and continue on to Congress Park. Any Vietnam Veterans who would like to march are encouraged to contact the Lodge at (518) 584-2525.

David Wallingford, a Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam War and recipient of the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” and the Purple Heart Medal, will be this year’s Honorary Grand Marshal. Wallingford was also entered into the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame in 2014. We thank him for his bravery and service.

Past Exalted Ruler of the Lodge (1995), Tom Curley, will act as the Grand Marshal this year.

The event is free to attend and is scheduled from 12 – 2pm. Attendees can expect performances from a number of school marching bands, choirs, and other local organizations. This year’s parade is also marked by the city’s 100 year anniversary, with Centennial-themed events continuing on throughout the season. You can learn more about the history of Saratoga Springs in our weekly Centennial Series blog, featuring prominent local buildings in and around downtown.

For anyone who would like to join in celebrating and commemorating our flag, Roohan Realty will be out Saturday morning placing hundreds flags downtown along the parade route. We welcome you to take one on your way to the parade to show your support.
