Festival of Trees 2017
Roohan “Penguins and Polar Bears” Tree Sells Fast for Catholic Charities, Wins Best in Show
2017 was another successful year for the Saratoga Springs Festival of Trees! The annual event is a fundraiser for Catholic Charities and has become a cherished community tradition. Each year, Roohan Realty sponsors a tree (which is scored by judges for various award categories and is eventually auctioned off for charity) and assembles a team of agents as our tree’s designated designers and decorators. Our design team meets several months before the festival to strategize on a theme, color scheme, ideas for the topper, ornaments (90% of our decorations are handmade!) and most importantly…the scene beneath the tree, which ties it all together. This year’s team included Karan Murray and her daughter-in-law, Victoria Hankinson, Jason Thomas and his wife Saranya, and Darlene Chorman.
Penguins and Polar Bears
This year’s tree theme was “Penguins and Polar Bears,” which featured a snow-covered luge cascading around the tree from the top with whimsical animals sliding down to the finish line:
From the illuminated igloo topper:
To the wintery floating iceberg scene at the base (complete with ice skating penguins, and polar bears fishing, roasting marshmallows and enjoying hot chocolate), no detail was overlooked:
But perhaps the best part of our tree was the reaction it elicited from festival-goers: families with children sat on the floor snapping photos as their little ones crawled around to explore the magical scene. It was a delight to see others enjoying our tree so much.
“Penguins and Polar Bears” was awarded the Best in Show ribbon at this year’s festival, but more importantly, it sold quickly to a happy family with two children. Their purchase helps support Catholic Charities and the invaluable services they provide our communities.
And that is why we do these volunteer events at Roohan Realty…to give back to the community and see the smiles on those faces. We hope you were able to attend the 2017 Festival of Trees and see “Penguins and Polar Bears” up close, but in case you missed it, we hope you enjoyed these photos :)
If you have any incredible ideas for next year’s tree theme, please contact Karan or Darlene anytime!
