Modern Mad Men Style Ranch with Open Floor Plan
13 Birchwood Court, Ballston Spa, NY
by Eli King for Roohan Realty | June 3, 2019
Recently listed for sale for $309,000, we’re having major house envy over this immaculate and impeccably-styled executive ranch in Ballston Spa. Here’s our Q&A with its current owner, Caitlin Grande.
First thing we have to ask is for selfish reasons – that couch, where did you get it? It’s AMAZING!
Caitlin: I’m glad you love the couch! I am obsessed with it and it’s my favorite piece in our home. It’s from Interior Define. They have so many different fabric options. Ours is the velvet and is pet/kid friendly. So it’s super durable and really attractive.
Who styled the interior?
Caitlin: I styled it!
Do you do interior design professionally or was it just for fun?
Caitlin: I don’t do interior design professionally. I just really enjoy putting pieces together that I find aesthetically pleasing and that have meaning to us.
How would you describe your home’s style/vibe?
Caitlin: To me, our homes style is mid century modern with a little bit of farmhouse vibe in the kitchen.
What was your inspiration? Favorite resources?
Caitlin: I took a lot of inspiration from Mad Men, West Elm, and Anthropologie. I love a retro look and I think West Elms pieces give me that. With a modern feel.
Did you have an overall vision for the entire home or did you have a different idea for each room?
Caitlin: I wanted all of the rooms to have a good flow between them with light fixtures and paint colors. I feel like my style is pretty consistent so it was simple to accomplish a nice flow.
How long did it take you to complete everything?
Caitlin: We bought the house in November 2018. It took 3-4 months to get everything set up how I wanted it.
What is your favorite room in the house and why?
Caitlin: That’s a tough choice. I would say it’s the living room. The yellow couch is so beautiful. We showcased photos of our family from wedding to pregnancy to newborn photos and that’s so special to see every day. The chandelier and green wall in the dining area is definitely a close second.
What was the most challenging part of the project (or room) and why?
Caitlin: I had a hard time picking out curtains and rods that went with my yellow couch but also the green wall and chandelier in the dining room.
Everything came out so beautiful, why are you selling?
Caitlin: We put it on the market in May (2019) because we relocated for Max’s work. If we could’ve picked up 13 Birchwood and moved it to Georgia, we totally would’ve!
What do you think is the biggest selling point of the home or thing the new owners will love the most?
I think the open concept is a huge selling point since that layout is really in demand. Also the unique light fixtures and cabinetry in the kitchen. Plus a first floor laundry closet – we used front loaders in it and stacked them.
Any advice for home buyers who recently purchased their new home and want to style it but don’t know where to start?
Caitlin: Stay true to your style and showcase wall art that has meaning. Don’t be afraid of color.
