Sustainable Saratoga initiated the first Saratoga Recycles Day in 2017 to help local residents repurpose unwanted household items, protect the environment, and help organizations in our community. Now in its fifth year, the volunteer-run event has diverted literally tons of items from landfills and continues to add new community partners who can use and distribute donations where they’re needed most. There are no residency restrictions and anyone is welcome to participate, so please join us in “paying it forward” on Saturday, October 2!

COMMUNITY COMPOSTING CHALLENGE
YouthSquared will be hosting a “Community Composting Challenge,” giving out FREE educational materials and stainless steel kitchen compost bins with charcoal filters for people who want to begin separating food scraps in their homes. Find them after station #8 (see map). The food scraps you collect can be brought free of charge to the Wednesday and Saturday Saratoga Farmers Markets each week. Separating food scraps and not having them go to our landfills is the 3rd best thing you can easily do to reduce the greenhouse gases in our world.
