1. Goldsmith Joins Roohan Realty
Nate Goldsmith, owner of The Country Gentleman and Mother Goldsmith, is joining Roohan Realty after retiring from a long career in the restaurant business:
2. McDonald’s Makes a Big Purchase
Saratoga’s New Yorker Hotel on South Broadway is purchased for $30,000 by the McDonald’s Corporation.
3. Presidential Arms For Rent
The Presidential Arms – a “large, modern three bedroom apartment” – is available for rent for $160/month including utilities:
4. School Teachers Get Raise
School teachers get a pay raise, Step I: teacher with a BA – $6,750 and teacher with a MA -$7,400.
5. 43 Horses Die in Harness Track Fire
A fire at the Harness Track has killed 43 horses. An alarm was received at 3:59 AM for the fire at Barn J, located directly behind Pennell’s Restaurant. Upon arrival, the fire department found it completely engulfed in flames and collapsing. Firemen then directed their efforts to Barn H, 50 feet away, which had also started to burn. Fortunately, Barn H held only equipment and no additional animals’ lives were lost:
6. East Side Home Asking $26,900
A four bedroom, 1.5 bath raised ranch home on Saratoga’s east side is for sale for $26,900:
7. Namath Calls It Quits
NFL Commissioner, Pete Rozell, has ordered Joe Namath to divest himself of the interest he holds in a midtown lounge, Bachelors III, to protect the league’s reputation or else be suspended. During a news conference, a teary-eyed Namath stated he will be quitting football:
(A month later, Namath would recant his statement, divest his interest in the property, and continue to play for 8 more years.)
