2019 marks Roohan Realty’s 50th year in business! We would like to take you back to 1969 and share what was happening in the news – locally and nationally. We’ve been having a great time reading old newspapers and hope you enjoy seeing the historic Roohan Realty connections as much as we do. Community involvement and public service have been ingrained in our business from the very beginning – a commitment that continues today. Check back every Thursday for a fresh flashback to 1969!


1. Bob Hope Visits NY State Republican Convention

“If there’s Hope, there’s humor:” Bob Hope is master of ceremonies at the NY State Republican Convention held at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City:

 

 


2. Rockefeller Announces Successful Bidder

Governor Rockefeller announce the successful bidder for the new Wilton State School. The School is the first of 11 new state schools for the developmentally disabled. The school, which is expected to be completed by the end of 1971, will be located at the northeast corner of the new Wilton summer camp on a gentle slope of ground south of Ballard Road. 3. Class of ’69

Some graduating seniors from the class of 1969:

From St. Peter’s Academy:

  • Loretta Towne – sister of Stephen & David Towne and Michele Torres
  • Bernice Benton – sister of Chris Benton
  • Michele Mincher – former Roohan Realty agent

From Saratoga Springs High School:

  • Charles Wait – Chairman of the Board, Adirondack Trust Company
  • Jill O’Hanlon – cousin of Mary Flanagan (who writes this series)
  • Mike Biffer – retired building inspector for Saratoga Springs

 


4. Face Lift for the Adelphi

The historic Adelphi Hotel gets new look as the 90 year-old building undergoes renovation:


5. St. Peter’s Student Receives Scholarship

St. Peter’s student, Keith Michael Ferrara, is awarded the Kate A. Johnson Memorial Scholarship to the University of Notre Dame. He plans to pursue a career in science.
