519 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY: Currently home to Roohan Realty and other local businesses, this historic building was actually a movie theater for forty years (1938-1978).

2019 marks Roohan Realty’s 50th year in business! We would like to take you back to 1969 and share what was happening in the news – locally and nationally. We’ve been having a great time reading old newspapers and hope you enjoy seeing the historic Roohan Realty connections as much as we do. Community involvement and public service have been ingrained in our business from the very beginning – a commitment that continues today. Check back every Thursday for a fresh flashback to 1969!

1. Winter will be a while longer

Punxsutawney Phil does see his shadow, meaning 6 more weeks with “Old Man Winter.” The Department of Public Works reports that so far this winter, they’ve used more than 4,000 tons of sand and 1,300 tons of salt to service the city’s 110 miles of roads…compared to 2,000 tons of sand and 1,000 tons of salt used in TOTAL last year in 1968. (Please wake us when it’s above freezing…)

4. If You Lie With Dogs You Will Get…Fined

The city’s accounts department is compiling a list of almost 600 dog owners with delinquent dog licenses. Licenses for spayed females and male dogs cost $2.25, but penalties for lapsed licenses can cost up to $13.50. Puppies must be licensed by the time they are 6 months old, otherwise they may be seized at any time:

The purpose of the trip, as described by the President, is:

“The Alliance, held together in its first two decades by a common fear, needs now the sense of cohesiveness supplied by common purpose. I am eager for an early exchange of views on all the important issues that concern us. I favor intimate and frank consultations, and I am delighted that it has proved possible to make this journey so early in my administration. I am going to discuss, not to propose; for work, not for ceremony.”
