What fun reading the Saratogian from 50 years ago. The paper cost 10 cents, and a subscription by carrier was 60 cents a week. No paper on holidays or on Sundays.  Newspaper advertising was a big business. All the local clubs published their meetings, and fundraisers. Hospital admissions were published. Weddings were often 3 column news items with a complete description of attire, honeymoon destination, and where the newlyweds would reside upon their return. Card Parties, Fashion Shows, Flower Shows, Tea Table Chat (polite title of gossip column), Trackdown – citizens could ask a question and the newspaper would find the answer and publish it. Letters to the editor were signed with name and address. All our local servicemen’s addresses were published so you could write to them.
