Why We Love Our Home at 18 Hearthstone Drive
From the very first time we drove through the Fairways development in Wilton we knew we wanted to live in this community. More than 25 years later we still can’t imagine a better place in Saratoga to live. All the things that attracted us in the first place are still what we love today. The quality, stature and uniqueness of the homes in this carefully planned neighborhood, the beautiful tree filled landscapes, the quiet and peacefulness of living just outside city limits and on a half-acre sized lot that provides ample personal space and privacy, the proximity to shopping centers, grocery stores, highly rated schools, and the Northway, and the closeness of downtown dining, shopping and entertainment when we want it, without having to pay high in-city real estate prices and taxes.
We raised a family in our home at 18 Hearthstone Drive, and like us, our kids have great affection for this home. Our memories of the kids playing outside on the lawns, shooting baskets on the circular driveway, running over to our neighbors’ homes to play with their kids, taking leisurely bike rides and walks through the neighborhood, summer dinners on the porch, and gatherings at our home with our neighbors, friends and family will be with us for our lifetime.
Our custom-built home was a solid investment in our family and lifestyle. When we first found it we were impressed by its curb appeal – the way it was situated and set-back on a quiet corner lot with many trees on its front, side and back yards. We also liked that it was very near the McGregor Links Country Club which was well-known for its challenging golf course and offered swimming, tennis and dining. After we purchased our home we added a front covered entry, an in ground sprinkler system and additional landscaping to enhance its outward appearance and functionality.
Inside we were immediately impressed with the overall flow of the layout and the quality of the details. We loved the way its colonial design was both open and inviting for socializing yet afforded our family plenty of private spaces to do our own thing when we needed to. We were fortunate that the original owners had specified a custom designed kitchen with French glass pocket doors that opened to the family room, solid wood paneled doors throughout the home, large-sized baseboards and window trim, an over-sized 2 car garage, a large screened in porch, and two wood burning fireplaces. In fact, the original owners loved this home so much they rebuilt the exact same home when they relocated.
Over the years, we enhanced the livability of our home by remodeling the kitchen, creating a luxurious bathroom for the master bedroom suite, complete with marble floors and countertops, his and her sinks, soaking tub and a seamless glass enclosed shower. We also added a very large walk-in closet to the master with a custom closet organization system, wood plantation shutters and crown moldings in many of the rooms, and a fully functional mirrored-wall exercise room in the basement.
We love our home but it’s more than we need now that our kids are off on their own. However, as we downsize, we know 18 Hearthstone will provide a fantastic lifestyle and a warm, inviting and safe haven for the next family that makes it their own.
