2019 marks Roohan Realty’s 50th year in business! We would like to take you back to 1969 and share what was happening in the news – locally and nationally. We’ve been having a great time reading old newspapers and hope you enjoy seeing the historic Roohan Realty connections as much as we do. 1. New Sign Ordinance

Notice of the new sign ordinance will take effect September 3rd. This was passed by the City Council September 3, 1966 to take effect 3 years hence. (Now that’s some serious lead time).

2. Charles Bracket Saratoga Funeral

Oscar-winning screenwriter/producer and native Saratogian, Charles Brackett, passes away at the age of 76 in Beverly Hills, CA.  His funeral will be held in his hometown of Saratoga Springs, NY:

3. New Rival for J.B. White Realty

Sondra G. Silverhart, a former associate at J.B. White Realty, recently opened a competing real estate agency, Silverhart Associates. The new office is located at 380 Broadway in Saratoga Springs, NY.

5. You Maniacs!

The Community Theater is playing a double feature – Valley of the Dolls (1967), starring Barbara Parkins and Patty Duke; and Planet of the Apes (1968), starring Charlton Heston.

6. Local Students Win History Prize

The Daughters of the American Revolution (Saratoga chapter) has announced the winners of its annual history essay contest, including seven local students. Winners included this author, a 7th Grader at St. Clements School.

7. Dead Elms

8. Guests at the Saratoga Council

Dr. William Hickey (Father-in-law of Roohan Realty’s Weldon Culp) will be guest speaker at the Saratoga Council 246 Knights of Columbus Communion Breakfast. John T. Roohan will be toastmaster.

9. Gulf Station Proposal

A zoning hearing is scheduled for the proposed Gulf Station on South Broadway. (Opposition was strong, and the City Council denied the application).
